liverpool-away-shirt-2009-10

Here is the new 2009-2010 Liverpool away shirt. I think it is allot better than last seasons effort. Last time out the retro gray kit was not the easiest on the eye!!

I think liverpool have it right this time though as the dark shade of grey for the main colour with the contrast of the light gold for the popular Carlsberg and Adidas logos. The kit is finished off with a red trim on the chest area and the badge. One the back of the kit, the names and player numbers are also to be in the light gold colour.

The kit is now available from the club shop at the normal prices…

away shirt (Adult) £39.99
away shirt (Kids) £29.99

On the edge 5-Aside Team

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Here is a 5-Aside team for controversial celebs who are often living on the edge for one reason or another.

GK- David Hasselhoff- The American stopper has had a bad few years in the limelight. Since his days as a sex symbol on Baywatch he has struggled to cope with personal problems and has been caught ‘wasted’ on various occasions, most notably at heathrow airport.

DEF- George Michael- The very talented recording artist slots in well at left side of the defense. The very popular singer has had a successfull career but in more recent years has been caught by the police and the press doing numerous acts of badness

DEF- Kerry Katona- The ex- Atommic Kitten star is now the face of Iceland’s food adverts. Kerry has struggled recently and was leathered on live TV show ‘This Morning’. Kerry blamed this on her ‘Bi-Polar’ disorder? Anyway, the stocky defensive leader fits in on the right side of defense and brings many qualities to this team.

MID- Brian Harvey- The tough tackling defensive midfielder is also a former pop star. Brian; once of boyband East 17 is the lynchpin of our team and breaks up the play. The famous singer has had a few problems over the years and recently was accused of trying to kill himself with his own car. Of course as he later explained, it ws the hot jacket patatoes that had caused the problem. Being to hot to eat, upon mass consumption he fell out of the open door and then underneath the car as he pressed the accellerator.

MID- Paul Gascoigne- As the only player in the team with international experience, Paul is probbably the most important player. The gifted playmaker inspires the rest of the team and improves morale with his practical jokes. Paul is unfortunatley very much on the edge and is fighting many personal battles. Recently caught tring to get into a pub with his own house keys in the morning.

ATT- Britney Spears- In sunday league, Britney plays off the front man but we have converted her playing style for the short game. The talented pop star is deadly infront of goal, comparable with Inzaghi. Often thrust into the limelight, Britney has struggled with the rise in her popularity and has had recent breakdowns. The press never leave her alone and most notable moment was shaving head a couple of years ago.

Heres a really sexy picture of Britney Spears in her prime for all you fans. Britney must be one of the most gorgeous women of all time!!!

Kaka against Egypt

There was a festival of goals on day 2 of the Confederations cup as Group B got underway with 2 of the best footballing nations taking to the field.

The game of the day was from the Free State Stadium in Mangaung/Bloemfontein where the South African crowd were treated to some skillfull and flowing football from both sides as Brazil defeated Egypt 4-3. The samba stars stormed to a 3-1 half time lead before the brave Egypt got back on level terms shortly after the break. It took an injury time penalty for Real Madrid new by ‘Kaka’ to claim the victory for Brazil.  It was Kaka who gave Brazil the lead after just 5 minutes as he slotted home from inside the box.  Mohamed Zidan then levelled matters after just 9 minutes, the impressive Borussia Dortmund star headed home from Mohamed Aboutrika’s cross. 3 Mintues later Luis Fabiano got a head to Elano’s free kick to restore Brazils advantage and then Juan scored the 3rd header of the match to make it 3-1 to Brazil at half time. Egypt Levelled after the break with 2 goals in as many minutes from Mohamed Shawky and Mohamed Zidan. In the last minute, Lucio’s shot was handled on the line by Ahmed Al Muhamadi. The Egypitan defender was sent off, and Kaka then slotted the penalty home to claim the win.

The second game of the day came from the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane/Pretoria where Italy defeated the USA by 3 goals to 1. It was quite ironic that it was supersub Giuseppe Rossi who was born in New Jersey in the USA who won the match for the Azzuri. After half an hour of patient play by the Italians Houston Dynamo midfielder Ricardo Clark lunged at Gennaro Gattuso leaving the referee with no option but to brandish the red card. It was 10 man Usa however that took the lead just before the break as Landon Donovon converted from the spot after Giorgio Chiellini brought down Jozy Altidore inside the box. Supersub Giuseppe Rossi levelled the match after 60 minutes as he picked up the ball and smashed it home from 30 yards after being on the pitch for less than 1 minute. The Italians took control of the match then and after 70 minutes Daniele de Rossi gave them the lead after firing home from the edge of the box. Giuseppe Rossi finished the game off from close range late into stoppage time to complete the victory for the Italians.

How Adidas and Puma were formed- Part 1

Puma and Adidas headquarters in Herzogenaurach

Adidas and Puma are ranked up there with some of the biggest brands in the world and are possibly the biggest sporting brands along with Nike. What many people do not realise is that they were once the same company and both Adidas and Puma were born out of a bitter brotherly rivalry from the small Bavarian town of Herzogenaurach that had a population of around 3,500 in 1922.

Brothers Rudolf and Adolf Dassler have had such an effect on this tiny medievil town that to this day, 60 years on there is still a divide between the villagers. Each side even has their own Butchers, Bakers, Bars and Schools.

The story started in the 1920′s when both the brothers lived at home with their mother. They started a business based in the washroom and it was a sucess. In 1924, Adolf and Rudolf Dassler founded the “Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory” that  specialized in athletic shoes.

Business began to boom and during the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, a German sprinter wearing Dassler spikes took the bronze medal. This was to be eclipsed 4 years later when Jesse Owens, the best sprinter in the world, stormed to victory in the 100 Metres at the 1936 Berlin Olympic games. The world known sprinter went on to win 4 gold medals and in doing so was wearing the sprint shoes manufactured by the Dassler Brothers. This was to establish the Dassler Brothers with a worldwide reputation and paved the way for a sucsessfull future.

In 1933, both of the brothers joined the Nazi party and their factory was also used to make military equipment as many small and medium sized company premesis did during this period. This was part of Hitlers ‘Total War Economy’ and in 1943, final blow came for the Dassler shoe production and also most civilian business in Herzogenaurach as everyone was working for the military. Hitler’s regime officialy ordered a halt to all civilian business operations, and the shoe-making machines in part of the Dassler Brothers’ factory were replaced with spot-welding equipment for making weapons.

The Dasslers were somewhat fortunate their business did not get destroyed by American forces. When the US army marched into Herzogenaurach in April 1945 , the US tanks pulled up in front of the factory and the soldiers were debating whether to destroy the factory when Adi’s wife, Käthe, walked out and convinced them that the company and its employees were only interested in manufacturing sports shoes.

The US Air Force then set up its own operations at the former military air base in Herzogenaurach and when Americans got wind of the fact that the Dassler brothers had produced the shoes that Jesse Owens had run in, they started buying all the products the company could produce, catapulting the company again onto worldwide sucess.

From the beginning it was clear there were differences between the pair and even more so when the war began and one of the brothers appeared closer to the Nazi cause than the other.

This caused to much friction between “Rudi” and “Adi” as they were known, and eventually they were to go their seperate ways and never speak again, they are even buried in the same cemetry yet there gravestones are as far apart as you could possibly get.

In 1948, the brothers split their business, Rudolf (Rudi) then set up a rival firm on one side of the river called ‘Ruda’ before changing to ‘Puma’ and Adolf stayed put and shortened his name to Adi to form the company Adidas.
