Too Early for Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero for Manchester City

Sergio Aguero for Manchester City

People ‘City Fans’ are quick to draw the conclusion that £38,000,000 Sergio Aguero will be a dead certain to be a Tevez replacement, being able to replicate what he’s done for the team in the past and then some.

A writer for this blog has chimed in with the real deal when it comes to talks of this Argentine in the top flight league of the world.

M.Royle’s take on Aguero performance against newcomers Swansea City

We must have been the only people who were not surprised by Aguero last night! He is mint, he will replace Tevez’s goal tally no problem – but defoe could have done that for a third of the price – will he be the same player in terms of work rate and dragging the rest of the team through when things are not going there way……?

I think people are getting carried away – I reckon Swansea will finish in the bottom 2 this year, they were the 3rd best team to get promoted and their defence were knakered after being ran ragged for an hour before they brough him on – don’t get me wrong I think Aguero is class – but I bet now that he will not score another 30 yarder all season – only a newly promoted team would give him that much space, you don’t get that in the premier league and I also remember Elano and Robinho having great debuts too. Let see if he is still all that when he has to go up north to Newcastle or Sunderland on a Monday night in January!

My favourite quote

“It’s a long league and everyone has given him the player of the year award after half an hour against (probably) the whipping boys of this season – at home!”

Worried About Manchester City

City New Boy Adebayor

City New Boy Adebayor

Manchester City  confirmed on tuesday that they have signed Kolo Toure from Arsenal to add to the high profile superstars they have signed already. For around a year now, nobody has really taken the Citizens seriously however now you get the feeling teams will now have to, especially the likes of Arsenal as they have not really improved their team from last season and have a few bad injuries. Manchester City have spent over 100 Million but have signed some very good players. They already had stars such as Shay Given, Stephen Ireland, Vincent Kompany, Nigel De Jong, Martin Petrov and Robinho. Now they have added to that with the fire power of Adebayor, Tevez and Santa Cruz and sured up the midfield with Gareth Barry. Kolo Toure will be a good start to build the defence around so if they can sign another class centre half and maybe a full back, they could be looking good for the top 4 should Mark Hughes be able to gel the team together. The title will prob be too much of a long shot this season, however Manchester United do not look as strong, neither do Liverpool should they loose Alonso. Chelsea look to be favourites for the title but we shall have to see what the season brings

Valencia to United- Why?

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Wigan Athletics Antonio Valencia is constantly being linked with Manchester United and has even been linked with Real Madrid over the last 6 months. What i cannot understand about this is quite why? Should he make to move and be a huge success then fair enough, i will eat my words. I do not beleive this is a 20 million pound player and certainly not one that will improve Manchester Uniteds first team. A deal involving Nani has even been mentioned? Surely not, Nani looks to be just as good a player as Valencia and United have already invested in him? Valencia is a class act but it takes something special to get into a Manchester United team and im not so sure he has that, can he win game? will he get goals? I dont think he will, no more so than Nani if he was given the same opportunities or even the hard working Darren Fletcher and Park Ji Sung.

Barry to city – Good or bad move?

Gareth Barry

So Gareth Barry has completed an unexpected move to Manchester City early into the summer. Is it a good move for him? Who knows, I think it is for city. Or at least Mark Hughes. For the sum of 12 million he has signed a hardworking and professional player which is something any manager would want on his side, especially when things are turbulant as they often have been at Eastlands this season.
It is expected that Barry will slot into central midfield which is a position he has now made his own and even broken into the England team on a regular basis there. Im not sure how this will affect Kompany or De Jong, who have both been used in the holding role, often at the same time. Im sure Hughes wont worry about that though, now Barry has moved, especially this early into the summer it may open the door for other big names as more players consider the Citizens as a club that will challenge the top 4 next season.
Barry will be first on the team sheet every week and may even be in line for captency somewhere down the line. This should help him cement his place in the national team ahead of the world cup next summer. With Villa’s demise towards the end of the season maybe Barry felt the time was right to move on. Would Liverpool or Arsenal not have been a better option though? Im sure Benitez and Wenger will be wishing they had parted with the 12 million and landed Barry and surely he would rather play champions League football and challenge for the Premier League title?
